Inside the festival

The Business Street (TBS) is  the ‘home’ for film industry professionals and is especially dedicated to the circulation, acquisition and sale of audiovisual products.

Its offer includes videolibrary and screenings reserved for industry professionals, meetings between producers, buyers, and sellers, and an interesting selection of conferences and workshops on the most important issues concerning the national and international film industry today.

In 2012 The Business Street will take place during the second half of the Festival, from November 14th through the 18th, thus securing a strong position in the International and Italian Film Industry agenda. Far from the packed late summer festival offer, the new dates provide the ideal launching pad for the national and International release of new titles.

Over the last six years, TBS gathered in Rome an increasing number of International producers and distributors, among its market premieres offered a selected preview of Italy’s latest productions (Italian Screenings), made a foray in the world of publishers with “Industry books” and proposed a rich activity of meetings, round tables and workshops (go to past editions for further details).

At a time of global crisis, TBS' winning formula relies on high profile participants and products, informal atmosphere and light infrastructure, competitive participation costs, flexibility and combination of venues and programme. This way, TBS represents an efficient solution for guaranteeing  optimal results for the circulation of both projects and films and for networking with leading industry players on the European and international scene.

New Cinema Network (NCN) is a project dedicated to supporting new independent filmmaking: a co-production market where the filmmakers - selected from among the world's most interesting talents on the independent film scene - find the ideal platform for presenting their new feature film projects and connecting with the most important players in the European film industry.

About 50% of the NCN selected projects over the past editions have completed financing and are either completed films or are currently in pre, prod or postproduction. Great results have been achieved by the completed films in terms of co-production ventures and success. Among others we are proud to quote: The Milk of Sorrow by Claudia Llosa that has won the Golden Bear at the 59th Berlinal International Film Festival and has been nominated as best foreign language film at the 2010 Academy Awards®. To Die Like a Man by Joao Pedro Rodrigues and Visage by Tsai Ming Liang have been selected at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in the Sections A Certain Regard and in Competition.

With NCN, the Festival proudly joins the international network of festivals, stretching from Rotterdam, Berlin and Cannes to Hong Kong and Pusan, that side with those filmmakers and producers who are striving to make new films. Since its very first edition, NCN has become an important link in this virtual chain, working in synergy with the other international and European events (Cannes Cinéfondation - Atelier du Festival and Film London Production Finance Market; Berlinale Co-Production Market) while making a strong original contribution to the international film industry: an effective co-production forum for the circulation of capital, ideas and information in a relaxing and creative stimulating atmosphere.
